ADIOS Electronics Ltd recognizes that we have a responsibility to operate our business in such a way it does not have any negative impact on the environment. We are committed to finding ways in which we
can demonstrate this aim to achieve a green culture within our company and amongst our employees to protect our environment for now and for the future.
By using collective intelligence, we have measured our emissions to understand what our carbon footprint is. In accordance with GHG Protocol (Green House Gas Protocol) various emission sources determine the 3 scopes for which we have established the following areas will require our focus.
Scope 1 – All emissions generated directly by ADIOS Electronics Ltd by company owned equipment or vehicle fleet.
Scope 2 – Emissions generated by purchased energy, for example oil, gas and electricity.
Scope 3 – All other emissions that are not under direct control by ADIOS Electronics Ltd, such as employee travel.
Whilst our ultimate aim is to be Net Zero in the future, we have taken the following steps to offset our current carbon footprint to bring an immediate relief to reduce our emissions and help fight climate change.
As a result of our measurements, we have established we can improve areas within the 3 scopes and offset our emissions by introducing a policy to mandate the following:
- Packaging used for orders to be of materials that are recyclable and where possible biodegradable. ADIOS Electronics Ltd packaging to state it is sourced from sustainable means and should be recycled. Jiffy bags with plastic padding are no longer permitted.
- Avoid the use of paper wherever possible. Statements are sent out electronically, invoices and quotes via email as PDF files where possible
- HR software system is paperless, all records are stored in digital format such as Payslips, P60’s, P11’d, which are available for download by employees. Personal Details, Reviews and Training Records are held in digital format on the employee record, compliant with GDPR. Electronic door access by facial recognition and fob negates the requirement to use paper timesheets.
- Purchase products made with recycled or recyclable paper or card. For example, paper towels, printer paper, envelopes, infill packaging and boxes.
- Recycling equipment that is no longer of use to the company. For example, selling or giving away items such as computers and printers that we no longer use.
- Out of date branded marketing material to be given away to employees or responsibly recycled to support charities in need or disposed of by registered recycling agent.
- Product disposal sent only to authorised and registered recycling agents.
- Waste cardboard, wood, metal and plastics to be sent only to authorised and registered recycling agents.
- Purchase electronic equipment that has been classified as low energy source for example, mobile phones, laptops and printers.
- Vending machines should be of low power with power saving modes when not in use. Recycled cups to be used for hot vends. Reusable water bottles have been issued to employees in replacement of single use plastic cups.
- Keep energy usage low. For example, low energy led lighting and occupancy sensors are mandated throughout the building and ensure that computers and TV screens/monitors are shut down after work.
- External security lighting to be sensor controlled and energy efficient led lighting to be used.
- Air conditioning systems to be set on timers to maintain a stable temperature and to limit use when the building is unoccupied.
- Reduce water usage by having sensor taps and waterless urinals.
- To avoid ‘unnecessary’ travel by road, train or flight, employees are encouraged to make use of Microsoft Teams for meetings or using the video and audio-conferencing suites on site, and use of telephone or email.
- The Car Allowance Policy has been changed to permit smaller more economical engines being used that are better for the environment.
- For company events, such as sales conferences and business meetings requiring an overnight stay, hotels within a 30-mile radius will be used where possible.
- On site cleaning contractors are to use products with a lower environmental impact. For example, environmentally friendly soaps, recycled toilet paper and detergents.
- Garden contractors advised to mulch grass cuttings and remove other garden waste for disposal in an authorised and registered facility
- Encourage employees to put forward waste saving suggestions.
Further measures include:
- Consolidated shipping from suppliers & customers.
- IC Tray & Tube recycling.
- Bee Hives, Bug Hotels, Nature friendly environment and plants.
- Updated & enhanced video conferencing facilities.
- European Inventory – Reducing CO2.
Future measurements yet to be established and currently being worked on to achieve a target for improvement:
- Invoices to be sent by electronic means at time of order despatch.
- Suppliers will be asked to share their green policy credentials.
- Directly reduce emissions from cars used for company use to be reduced by 2030 by introducing an electric vehicle fleet.
- Electricity to be monitored with a view to continuously reduce usage.
- Gas to be monitored with a view to continuously reduce usage.
- Oil to be monitored with a view to continuously reduce usage.
- Water to be monitored with a view to continuously reduce usage.
- Renewable energy will always be considered and where we can switch to green tariffs with our energy suppliers we will endeavour to do so.
- Electric Car Power Points – usage to be measured and quantified.
- Electric Car Power Point, check feasibility of solar chargers.
